Thermoset Pulley

HUTCHINSON® Thermosets molded pulleys in phenolic thermoset resins are the lightest and strongest solution for automotive applications.

Main Benefits
  • Heat resistance

  • Mechanical strength

  • Cost & Weight reduction

Characteristics

Pulley Structure

Material
The specific thermoset phenolic resin offers equivalent mechanical strength and heat resistance to steel. Its low density allows a product up to three times lighter.

Tailor-made design
Hutchinson development team performs dedicated and optimized design through Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

  • Definition of optimal thickness and rib reinforcement
  • Integration of specific functions such as steel inserts or stretchy belt fitting

Performances

Mechanical resistance

  • Heavy loads up to 4000 N
  • Guaranteed screwed assembly over time
  • Temperature environment -40 to +140° C

Weight reduction

  • 4 times lighter in density (2 g/cm³ vs steel at 8 g/cm³) and around 3 times lighter after design
  • Fuel consumption & CO2 emission reduction
  • Optimized NVH behavior of the belt drive (inertia reduction)

Environment friendly

  • No treatment required against corrosion
  • Resistant to liquids: oil, coolant, chemicals, water, moisture, etc.
  • Contains neither Lead (Pb) nor Chrome (Cr6)

High precision

  • ISO 9981 compliance
